[more]The Adria House is a well established, family-run and now FULLY NO-SMOKING
guest house, centrally situated and just 15 minutes walk from Princes Street and the main bus and train stations of St. Andrew’s and Waverley. The Adria offers charming, comfortable accommodation and good value for it's central location. It is within easy walking distance of many of Edinburgh's principal cultural, historical and retail landmarks. Built in the 1820's, the Adria House gives the discerning guest the opportuity to live in a property forming part of the city's "New Town" which
visitors from around the world come to admire.
The Playhouse Theatre, Scotland’s home to the West End Musicals, is just around the corner as is the Omni leisure and entertainment centre with it's 12 screen Vue Cinema complex and Jongleurs Comedy Club. Only a further 5 minutes walk away onto Queen Street is another comedy club The Stand and Jools Holland's live music venue The Jam House. For those of you requiring a little "retail therapy" - George Street, John Lewis, St. James Shopping Centre, Princes Mall, Jenners, Harvey Nichols and Multrees Walk are all on the doorstep too.
Also just a short stroll away and standing against the spectacular backdrop of
Arthur’s Seat is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence in Scotland of
Her Majesty the Queen. Sited alongside it is Our Dynamic Earth Science Centre and the new Scottish Parliament. Continue up the Royal Mile / High Street and make your way to Edinburgh Castle which is perched on an extinct volcano. This instantly recognisable fortress is a powerful national symbol and home to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
This 200 year old building is situated within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and
was once a fashionable society house. Today the Adria still embodies much of the
Georgian architecture and decorative elegance associated with the period found
within Edinburgh's New Town. The cobbled Royal Terrace is the longest continuous terrace in the New Town. The houses are only built on one side of the street and there is a generous amount of open space. It was also once nick-named "Whisky Row" after the rich merchant families once resident here who bought the then new properties and from the upper floors could view their ships return to Leith from trading trips.
