    Spa First Timer (02.05.2008 13:24)
My sister had been planning on taking me to a spa for a while and I finally relented and found time for it this year. I have never done this sort of thing before because it tends to be rather expensive and I wasn't really comfortable with the idea of facials, massages and the intimacy that I imagined was involved in them. We approached Champneys Springs via country roads with fields all around [more...]

    Could Be Better (18.03.2008 23:35)
In 2007 Derby opened the brand new shopping centre that is Westfield Derby. It is an extension and refurbishment on what was the Eagle Centre. On our visit we chose a familiar entrance through what was the Eagle Centre Market and is now more simply known as the Eagle Market. First impressions were that nothing had changed. It was the same old run down and worn out indoor market. My daughter [more...]

Quality Food in Cosy Surroundings (09.03.2008 17:23)
I'm not usually one to wax lyrical about restaurants. In fact I have a tendency to get put off reasonable ones by little things building up over time. I seem to have a particular problem with the restaurants running out of whatever I fancy on the menu. However, The Bulls Head is one restaurant I keep coming back to, particularly for special occasions. My first experience was a "lite lunch" [more...]

Too Much to do in One Holiday Time (02.07.2007 18:32)
Booking It was a variety of circumstances which led me to choose Butlins in Skegness for our holiday, but to cut a very long story a little shorter I will just mention that these circumstances meant that I had £420 worth of Butlins vouchers with which to book my holiday. I went to their site first to try and book our accommodation and after initially getting lost a little bit I was able to [more...]

Scala Cinema - Ilkeston, United Kingdom
Take A Step Back in Time For A Modern Movie (15.03.2007 12:08)
Once upon a time, there were three cinemas in the little town of Ilkeston and the Scala was its first purpose built one. It was built in 1913 on the burial grounds of a chapel. However, this is not going to be a ghost story and as far as I know the building isn't reputed to be haunted. It was originally built with a balcony and a seating capacity of 1000. The striking front façade incorporates [more...]

Relax While The Children Play (13.03.2007 12:33)
Play centres like Chucklebutties have sprung up all over the place in recent years. I was first introduced to them when my eldest daughter was 2 years old and have since experienced five different ones in various towns. They are centres with large, padded play or equipment frames which cater for children usually up to the age of about 11. They are great for entertaining children and allowing them [more...]

    Pretty and Fun (07.08.2006 12:36)
Queens Park is located behind the Queens Leisure Centre in Chesterfield. When we walked in through the large iron gates, the first thing I noticed was the Cricket Pavilion and I initially wondered if we had walked in the wrong entrance. But walk past this building and it opens out into fields and gardens. The next thing I noticed was the grade II listed glass house, which really is a beautiful [more...]

An Attraction for Every Budget and Every Age (04.05.2006 12:48)
The Location Living in Derbyshire, I tend to forget that we are on the tail end of the Peak District. Indeed high peaks arent as good a description of Derbyshire as rolling hills, but maybe this is a more accessible area of the Peak District for those who cant always manage the peaks. Shipley Country Park in Derbyshire is certainly a testament to that theory as it tries to be as accessible [more...]
