[more]Langlands Moss Nature Reserve in East Kilbride is lowland raised bog protected as a nature reserve. The bog can be dated back to the last Ice Age, around 10,000 years ago. The reason it is such an important site is the Sphagnum moss which, over thousands of years, forms peat.
Visitors walk through the site using a footpath from Calderglen and can see the bog up close from the raised wooden boardwalk. Many insects can be seen at the reserve but the most obvious are the giant dragonflies which are attracted to the moss.
The site is open at all times and is open to everyone. Admission is free. Visitors are advised that parts of the site are dangerous and should keep to the paths.
