[more]The Southampton Boat Show is one of two major boat shows in the UK, the other being the London Boat Show. Now in its 40th year, it is held annually over ten days in September and attracts more than 120,000 visitors and more than 600 exhibitors. It is primarily an exhibition of all that is new in boats and boating, including the boats themselves, chandlery, and clubs and associations. As well as the trade aspect, the Show tries to present special features, such as boats which have appeared in films. With its location on a marina by the sea, it can also offer visitors a chance to try out a boat on the water, and children's dinghy courses are available. For the first time in 2008 there will be a Ladies' Day, with events and features geared toward female boating interests.
The Show is open every day from 10am to 7pm, and to 6pm on the final day. Special provision is available for disabled visitors as the show area is divided into three main areas linked by temporary bridges.
