The hotel was just opened in July 2003 and is located at the top of the 43-storey Al-Jaber complex. It is a mixture between a business and leisure hotel and an "entire floor" is dedicated to the "Spa at Shangri-La". There is a "fully equipped" gym, sauna and steam room, as well as nine treatment rooms, a spa bath, squash and tennis court, a movement studio, an "outdoor resort-style" swimming pool and a "swim-up" pool bar. Located in the Sheikh Zayed Road, the hotel is "15 minutes" away from the airport and just "five minutes" from the World Trade Center. There are 301 guest rooms and suites. I [more]

A report of the Shangri-la in Dubai was published in the section Hotel Check of the October 2004 issue of the Business Traveller Magazine Asia Pacific. The author, Ed Peters, pointed out that though the hotel was opened last year (i.e. 2003), they are still "adding the finishing touches", so he has had to deal with "annoying techno-glitches" such as" false fire alarms (and) faulty voice mail".
