Traffic jams in Dubai are getting worse by the day. During rush hours 5 km journey from Deira to the airport can take well over an hour. However, once you are there the airport experience itself is pretty good - provided you miss the peak flight hours (generally 6 - 8 a.m.) in the morning or have the option of using one of its many excellent lounges. The AED 20/25 charge for hiring a taxi at the airport is nothing short of a rip off. The usual international selection of garbage fast food outlets abound. For something different try the Safar restaurant or go to one of the lounges.
