In Northern Cyprus you are spoiled for choice if you are looking for a beautiful beach, but this one definitely was one of our favourite while we were living there.
Kaplica Beach is located to the West of Kyrenia and just below Kantara Castle. To reach it I would absolutely recommend that you use your own transport. I know that there is a bus service running to the village but I have no idea how often a day they pass from here. Knowing Northern Cyprus, I'd say probably not too often. The journey from Kyrenia takes you along the Northern Coast of the Island and the views you'll enjoy are breathtaking. The road is winding in narrow in places and generally not very busy. Coming from the Famagusta side of the Island you will have to pass from Kantara castle which means you'll have to go over the mountains. Again this road is very narrow in places and there are plenty of very sharp turns so be careful when driving. If you are coming from this side I'd recommend a stop at Kantara. Even if you are not interested in visiting the Castle, the views are unrivaled from up there.
The beach itself is located just before the small village Kaplica in a very picturesque bay. With the views over the bay and backing onto the Beşparmak mountains the place is just beautiful and the water is ever so blue and clean. The sand is fine and golden and the beach is also great for kids as it is wide, very sheltered by the bay and descends slowly. Kaplica Beach is serviced by a small restaurant/hotel and there are sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as toilets and showers. Refreshments can be bought at the restaurant and the small beach bar. For those who want to get a bit more active there is a volleyball net and you can always climb over the rocks to the tip of the bay.
If you would like to go I'd recommend a weekday as this place is immensely popular with locals and can get very busy at the weekends, whilst you might be lucky on a weekday and have the whole place all alone to yourself.
The shower and toilet facilities are not the most modern ones but they try to keep them clean and tidy, although on a very busy weekend during the summer they might not look to inviting any more at the end of the day.
The hotel has also opened a small camping site and you might be able to hire a caravan for the night or put up your tent if you want to stay a bit longer.
If you are planning a holiday in Northern Cyprus I'd really recommend this beach. It is not the largest or longest beach in Northern Cyprus, but it offers a beautiful scenery, is well looked after, the food in the restaurant is great and if you get the chance to see the sunset you'll probably never want to leave again.
