At the centre of Darjeelings pedestrian zone, their bright activities make up for banished exhaust emissions and engine noise.
Indian Airlines, Government Tourist Offices and a Cottage Industries showroom are the Hotel's tenants on the ground floor, together with an International Telephone Office and Internet Café.
The Hotel has panoramic views of the Himalayan Mountain Ranges stretching from Nepal, the entire Sikkim Himalaya, and, dominating all, Mount Kangchenjunga. Western Bhutan, and the Nathu La and Jelep La passes into Tibet and Bhutan are within the huge landscape surrounding the Bellevue Hotel.
The views from Suite 49 in the Hotel are unique and are surpassed only by those from our Temple Tower Observatory on the top floor, where there is also a private Buddhist Temple Room for prayer and meditation.
Well-furnished rooms are panelled throughout in warm juniper and pine, with polished wooden floors everywhere. All rooms have attached bathrooms with running hot and cold water. Log fires are available in the guest rooms in winter. A beautiful garden graces the back of the building.
The Bellevue is different. The rooms are not the same hotel rooms you find repeated all over the world - all the Bellevue's rooms are different.
The Bellevue is not a 'theme' hotel, pretending to be 'Tibetan' or 'Traditional' and merely decorated to look the part. It IS a Tibetan hotel, a private hotel, owned and run by a Tibetan Buddhist family.
