Exploring the Buddhist Caves at Dambulla

The author writes that the entrance to the cave temple is "a gaudy building called the Golden Temple" which is topped by a "monstrous 30m-high Buddah image" and that from there one has to ascend "many flights of stairs" before reaching the caves. The last cave features "elaborate paintings and carved Buddah images" which, the author states, "were even greater than I imagined".
