Over 400 years ago, this village of 100 people was deemed too small to even be included on a map of Cunninghame, but its population grew over the years due to industries such as coal mining, cotton and weaving and the brickworks. The artical describes how the population peaked in the mid nineteenth century but fell away again as these industries declined. Those who could not get work in the brick yards could find work at Nobel's dynamite plant in nearby Ardeer.
There are a few links on the left hand side, and a 1837 summary of the Dalry village, providing information about the public houses, the weekly transportation schedule and the surrounding environment.
