Our road trip across the United States ended up including some seven states. We planned it so the first part of the trip and the last part of the trip would be the "long hard" road. These would be the longest days of continuous driving to get the most miles out of the way. Our outbound leg was to stop for the night in Columbia, Missouri. Our first night was to be spent in a Quality Inn.
The thing about selecting a hotel from the internet is one really does not know much about it. We don't know what part of town it is in, is it safe? How close to the highway is it, will it be easy to get back on the road in the morning? Will it be quiet so we can get some solid sleep and get off to a good start the next morning? One does the best they can with the information gathered and then one goes from there.
In this case it worked out really well. The hotel was very close to the highway. We were able to get off when we arrived and get back on the next day when we were ready to continue with the trip. The hotel was set up in a square with all the room on the outer portion of the square. The inner portion was set up as a courtyard, however it was covered. The meant the pool was indoors. The courtyard had a small area that had another little covered area that served as the breakfast area. So in the morning after our arrival we just took a leisurely walk across the carpeted courtyard to the breakfast area and we were able to select from a variety of food items. This included eggs, bacon, cereal, yogurt, breads, donuts and other pastries. For beverages there were coffee, iced and hot teas as well as two different juices.
The staff was friendly and helpful. They were able to give us directions to a local store so we could pick up a few items. The directions were spot on and they were most helpful with supplying us with hours of operation for both the store and for the exercise area in the hotel.
Our room was very nice. It contained a large king size bed, writing desk, coffee pot, microwave oven, small refrigerator ( the little freezer did not work right but the main portion of the refrigerator did a dandy job of keeping our travel groceries nice and cool) and free internet access. I was able to get right on line with my iPod touch.
I don't know how many of you have been to Missouri at the end of July but it can be very humid and very hot. The room however was very comfortable with the provided air conditioning. The room was also very quiet and had window coverings that allowed almost all the bright sun to be blocked so the room was quite dark when we got up the next morning. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was built in such a fashion that both of us could get ready at the same time which meant we were able to depart that much faster as one did not have to wait on the other to finish getting ready.
The hotel as mentioned above did have an exercise room which we used. The weight machine was missing a pin to select the amount of weights to be used but both aerobics machines were working just fine and we put them to use.
The car park was ample and we had no problems getting in or out the next morning. All told it was a very comfortable stay and I was left with a favorable impression.

We did not have occasion to use Room Service so we did not look into it. I do not know for sure if they even had it. The room size, cleanliness, and condition were all very good. The features in the room included wireless internet access that was free, television which was free (we only watched a little so I do not know if pay per view was available or not), an ironing board, iron, writing desk, room darkening window coverings, hair dryer and various cosmetics and toiletries that were also complementary.

There was a hotel bar and the patrons did look happy but we did not stop in for a drink. The staff was friendly and provided very good service. We got a very nice reception and well wishes from the front desk when we dealt with them and the general condition of the hotel was good. It was well maintained and for the most part everything was working well except for the things mentioned in the main body of the report.

Quiet Location

We brought our own transportation and we were not interested in any night life as we were just starting our road trip. The location was very quiet and we got a very restful nights sleep as a result of the quiet.
