[04.11.2007] The Coellner Hof Hotel in Cologne is a "six-story, turn-of-the-20th-century building" that is located "within a 10-minute walk" of the city's Cathedral. Darwin Porter writes that this hotel is "well-maintained" and "comfortable" and that it has received "well-deserved praise from several readers".
The bedrooms are said to be "larger than the norm in government-rated three-star hotels", each having a "small, tiled bathroom" which contains "a tub/shower combination". These rooms "are being updated in a crisp, comfortable, and clean modern international style" which is "soothing in its use of neutral, monochromatic colors and dark hardwoods".
The public areas of the hotel are "distinguished looking" and some of these rooms "including the dining room, are richly paneled". These public areas are described as being "decorated in a conservative, solid style" which resembles "a baronial German home". This hotel has not been awarded any stars by Frommers, but this still means that it is recommended.
