Description

[more]Grange Barn dates back to the 13th century and is one of the oldest still existing timber framed barns in Europe. The barn has been part of the Cistercian Abbey of Colchester.
Since its construction 800 years ago the barn had been continuously in use until the 1960's, when it was deemed as unsuitable for modern farming. It fell into disrepair but has been completely restored in the 1980's after the local Council bought the property.
Today the barn is managed by the National Trust and houses a small exhibition of farm carts and local historical objects. For children there is quiz trail, parking facilities are available when the barn is open for visitors.

Adults £2.50, children £1, combined ticket with Paycockes merchant's house.
