Our local South Florida favorite and the constant best place to send our friends and visitors in the Ft. Lauderdale area less than an hour by car from Miami. This is a unique place to enjoy a great variety of butterflies in a tropical garden setting. It also has some great birds that you can see right up close.
So not only do you have the typical Florida experience of having parrots sit on your shoulders, but you can view many live birds, a large variety of humming birds and others that are viewed in their natural habitats. And then there are the butterflies. One of the most impressive experience is to sit calmly in a huge "Avary" filled with fluttering butterflies of all types, colors and sizes. Sit calmly on the comfortable wooden benches and they will come and sit! There are hundreds of them in this large area.
There is so much to see that you need about two hours to leisurely enjoy it all, the butterflies, the birds and the flowers as well as the scientific exhibitions. I am sure that some might find the admission price steep at $21.95 adults and $16.95, but there is a discount coupon on their website. Butterfly World is in the Trade Winds County park off of Sample Road exits of both I-95 and the Florida Turnpike. There are times that there is a small fee per car entering the park to get to the attraction.
This is a one of a kind experience.

This is an attraction that will please both kids and adults equally. There is an excellent educational component. It is well located and easily reached by the two major highways that pass through the region. The only drawback, like so many attractions, families might find it a bit expensive. But, with the coupon on their site it does become more like most of the other attractions in the region.
