merkat, 13.05.2008] I've stayed in this hotel on a business occasion, regional gathering, organized by the company that I've worked for.
The hotel is located on top of Sljeme hill (pronounced as "Slyeme"), just 30 minutes ride from Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, but place is so tranquil and nature is so beautiful, undisturbed by vicinity of a big city. The architecture is a mixture of mountain house and modern glass building, but those two styles are finely united. The lobby is nicely decorated, with warm colors and comfortable seats. Behind lobby, there is small but cute snack bar, where smoking is allowed. There are two elevators.
They have lot of single rooms, with enough space for closet, TV, writing desk and a small armchair. The bed was very comfortable and that was crucial for me as we had three most exhausting days. Curtains are wide enough to prevent any light coming through windows in the morning. So it is ideal to have a real healthy rest. Heating was perfect, although the outside temperature was far below zero. The bathroom is small, but functional, with hair-dryer, lavatory, toilette, shower-tub (with doors that can be closed perfectly, so there was no water all over the bathroom), and liquid soap inside the shower tub. But what have impressed me the most is that this was the cleanest room I've ever seen in my life. I'm very picky when it comes to cleanliness, and in all hotels that I've stayed in, no matter if it was 3 or 4 stars hotel, I could always find something that I did not like (from the spots on the carpet to the condition of the bathtub, or the "strange" smell). But this room was spotless and it remained that way until the last day, although there was lot of snow outside. Even towels and bed sheets seemed like they were new, every day.
Hotel has a restaurant with three walls full of large windows, which allow magnificent view on surrounding scenery. It is nice during day, to sit and watch the trees and snow, while sitting in a warm room. Breakfast was nicely arranged, with variety of different food, buffet style, but friendly staff was always prepared to assist. Dinner was truly delightful - it was a true gourmet experience. We were served only with the best specialties from Central Croatian cuisine, like turkey with chestnut or "mlinci" in sauce.
There is also indoor swimming pool, gym and massage available within hotel. Unfortunately, our schedule was so tight, that I did not have the chance to have a massage (which I needed so much!), but I remember that the price was really reasonable. That reminded me of the fact that the exact expression is "business OR pleasure". Well, at least the conference room was nicely equipped, and chairs were comfortable enough, so we could take a little nap during long and boring speeches (one colleague, who was executive btw, truly fell asleep for a while)...
Near hotel there is a small restaurant in mountain style, near the ski track. On the other side is a hiking trail and place suitable for different recreational activities, like archery (which we have tried, and I was quite successful).
I wish that I've stayed in this hotel on a different occasion - it would be the perfect relaxation.
