[more]The Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1979 in order to protect one of the largest undeveloped river-delta estuarine systems. It spreads over 53.000 acres of land and the animals that can be found here include bald eagles, West Indian manatees and alligators. The scenery incorporates salt marshes, tidal flats, swamps and pine forests which are home to a broad variety of wildlife. Acitivities in the refuge include bird and wildlife observation, fishing, canoeing, hunting and interpretive walks. Observation decks and boardwalks offer views over the salt-marshes and the river.
The refuge offers picnic areas and restrooms.
