The district offers a wealth of architectural and cultural significant buildings, especially in the area of Michigan Avenue. Buildings to be found here include the former Railway Exchange Building (now Santa Fe building), the Chicago Cultural Center, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Gage Building, Auditorium Building and many more.
The start / end point of the Historic U.S Route 66 can also be found here, the "End Historic US 66" marker can be found at the Adams Street / Michigan Avenue junction although the original end of the Route 66 was located at Jackson Boulevard / Michigan Avenue.
The district overlooks Grant Park and is one of best known one-sided streets in the world.
