After a building time of three years the Sears Tower opened its doors for the public in 1973. With a height of 472m, 527 with the antenna, it was the highest building in the world until 1998, today it is the third tallest free standing building worldwide. The tower is totally covered in black alloy and around 16.100 windows adorn its facade.
The skydeck of the tower can be found on the 103rd floor, two lifts operate at 8 mph to transport visitors within 45 seconds to the viewing platform. The Sears Tower is located right in the middle of the Loop District of Chicago and one of the sights followers of the Historical US Route 66 tour will pass from.
