[30/09/2006] According to the author the Rachamanka Hotel is a relatively unknown "peaceful retreat" hidden away from the golden temples and the "bustle" of Chiang Mai's "night bazaar" in a "small residential street". It was built suggesting a "traditional" Lanna temple, the effect heightened by "tierred terracotta" roofs, courtyards with "blossoming" trees and corridors lined with artwork and "gold" boxes. She also discovered the "perfect respite" from the "stifling" heat in the "bourgainvillea-filled garden" and "teak-tiled" pool. The Thai staples, massage and food, were taken "very seriously" in the pavillion and restaurant respectively. The twenty three bedrooms open from the corridors through "tall wooden doors" and they are all furnished differently, but in a simple colour co-ordinated fashion. She was delighted to find that "delicious aromatherapy products", soaps and oils were provided. The connection with the modern world was maintained in the library with the provision of computers, the internet and whisky. The hotel provides "24 hour room service" and is situated "only 15 minutes by taxi" from the airport.
