On arrival at the hotel, the author finds an "exceptionally friendly receptionist". She describes her room as "comfortable if small", but doesn't seem impressed by the view of "back yards". The author mentions that her room was "tidied" and "the duvet turned down" after she left it a mess before going to dinner. She says that the drawing-room has "tall windows" with "pelmets" and "shiny brass chandeliers" which "glitter".
