In this article written by Re Carroll in August 2004, you'll learn that Chartres' Notre Dame Cathedral is "a UNESCO World Heritage site" and considered to be "the best preserved Gothic cathedral in Europe". The current structure of the cathedral is "from the 12th and early 13th centuries". The first structure was almost all destroyed after a fire. "People from all over Europe contributed their time and money to help rebuild it" but it "took under 30 years to complete the construction". The Cathedral is said to be "one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture" which still has "more than enough wonders to enthral" modern visitors albeit built in 1260. The building has been "unaltered since its consecration" and features "hosts of sculpted figures " as well as a rare "thirteenth-century labyrinth." The author found the exhibits to be "relatively unimpressive" but recommends obtaining a "bird's-eye view of the sculptures and structure" from the north tower.
