[ProfMagellan, 13/09/2011] This is a very pretty hotel in the centre of Chamonix. The room was small but well appointed.
The front desk staff were very stand-offish from the moment we arrived. This was not a language or cultural problem as Mrs Magellan and I are both French speakers. Rather they had been poorly trained. What was lacking was a senior management figure. And on the one evening which we wanted to enjoy in the hotel, the main (actually the only) reception room was roped off for a travel agency meeting. It reminded me then of Fawly Towers.
