Blue John Cavern is the most famous of Castleton's four limestone caves and derives its name from Blue John, a semi-precious form of the mineral fluorite that is found here and in the neighbouring Treak Cliff Cavern. Blue John is still mined here today and exported all around the world. There is a large gift shop located at the entrance to the cave where locally made Blue John jewellery and other gifts can be seen on display and purchased. Blue John Cavern is open daily from 9.30am until 5.30pm. Admission charges are: Adults - £7.50 (11.25 Euros) Children (aged 5-15) - £4.00 (6 Euros) Concessions - £5.50 (8.25 Euros) Family ticket (2 adults + 2 children) - £21.00 (31.50 Euros) Children under 5 - Free |
