[more]In 1997, after having been restored to its former glory, Borgo al Cerro was finally able to reopen its doors, and its interiors, after a two-year restoration, and large-scale renovation work, which has transformed it from an abandoned farmhouse into a residence providing holiday accommodation for tourists.
The history of Borgo al Cerro is not easy to reconstruct, but from the old walls one can see signs of fortifications, which were perhaps justified by the fact it is located on the old customs road for Casole dElsa.
Our 15 APARTMENTS of various sizes, and our 3 ONE-ROOM APARTMENTS, are located in the two main buildings of the Borgo; they have simple and functional furnishings, but they are warm and inviting, and all rooms have their original timbered ceilings and Tuscan terracotta flooring. Each apartment has its own separate entrance and own garden or patio, with a table, chairs, and sunshade for enjoyable al fresco meals. Inside, every apartment has its own fully equipped cooking area, with plates and cutlery and a microwave oven, while the lounge area has a TV satellite. In addition, there is a safe, and twin bathrooms (apart from the one-room apartments C5 and C6, and the apartment C3, which have one bathroom only), and all apartments also have their own heating system.

Our guests can enjoy relaxing by the side of the large SWIMMING-POOL (20 x 10) with its adjacent HYDROMASSAGE pool, or try a relaxing MASSAGE (Ayurvedic...) below the patio of the swimming pool where there is also a small KEEP-FIT AREA. A range of signposted tracks lead away from Borgo al Cerro. These can be explored on foot, for long walks, or by MOUNTAIN BIKE, which we are happy to rent to our guests.
In the evenings, you can cook Florentine T-bone steaks on our large BARBECUE, and enjoy them at tables on the patio by the poolside, or in the privacy of your own garden; alternatively, for expert pizza-makers our WOOD-FIRED OVEN is available for guests use. However, if you wish to enjoy local specialities from our regional Tuscan cuisine, you can come to our restaurant, 300 m away (on foot). This offers evening meals, or just a buffet breakfast, or a handy hot meals takeaway service.
CHILDREN are always welcome here, and to cater for them we have high-chairs, cots, and a small play area; the swimming pool has a max. depth of 140 cm, and the hydromassage pool is commonly also used as a paddling pool for the very small.
Our Reception desk is open 6 hours a day, 5 days a week.
We are located more or less in the middle of Tuscany, and even a short stay of just a few days allows guests to get to know a great deal about the local region.
A short, unsurfaced road (ca 800 m, uphill) leads directly to the centre of the small, delightful medieval town of CASOLE DELSA. As well as a very small but interesting museum, also worth seeing are the town centre, with the Collegiata (collegiate church) and the Castello (town hall), and glorious panoramic views over the surrounding green hills. Several small shops add extra life to the quiet and relaxing town centre, along with all essential services such as the bank, post office, chemists, and a doctor, as well as several eateries and wine bars.

From north (Milan / Venice / Bologna / Brenner Pass):
Take the AI motorway southbound, heading for Rome, and leave motorway at exit marked FIRENZE CERTOSA; immediately take the freeway (raccordo autostradale) headed for SIENA, and after about 37 km take the turn-off at COLLE VAL DELSA NORD. Head for the town of Colle Val DElsa, until you come to a sharp right-hand turn (just before the centre of the town) signposted for Volterra, San Gimignano, and Casole dElsa. The road climbs up and skirts the old part of town on the hill on your left. 2 km further on, you come to an outlying part of town called Le Grazie, with an Esso petrol station on the left. 50 m further on from this point is a turn-off on the left for Casole dElsa. Carry on along this main road for about 7 km until you come to a roundabout. Go straight on over it, taking the exit for Casole dElsa (not the exit for Cavallano / Volterra), and after ca 1 km, on your right, take the right-hand turn for Borgo al Cerro, opposite the sports ground at a crossroads. Carry on along this unsurfaced road for 1 km, and youll find Borgo al Cerro on your left.
From south
Take the VALDICHIANA exit off the A1 motorway, and carry on along the 4-lane freeway (raccordo autostradale) for Siena. Once you get to Siena, continue on the same freeway in the direction of Firenze / Bologna until the exit 20 km further on at Colle di val dElsa Sud. From here, follow the signposts for Casole dElsa; after three roundabouts and a small bridge, take a sharp right (following the signposts for Casole dElsa / Mensanello). After around 7 km of surfaced road, with its panoramic views, you get to a junction (where the road meets the larger strada provinciale), and here you turn right. After around 200 m, opposite the sports ground, turn left, following the signpost for Borgo al Cerro. You arrive after 1 km of unsurfaced road. Were on the left.
