The author thinks that "many" people are "surprised" when they find this castle in Cape Town. It has a "stone-walled pentagonal structure" and is the "city's oldest building". To take a tour through the castle is well worth the time. People can see the changing of the guard at the castle. Exploring the castle on ones own is "quite easily" done. Furthermore, there are "extensive displays of militaria" at the castle as well as "interesting" displays of the archaeology. "The highlight" is the "bulk of the William Fehr Collection". The Castle of Good Hope is the "oldest surviving building" in the country. Built "between 1666 and 1679", it "marks the original shoreline". Originally the "hub of civilian and administrative life", it is nowadays the "regional headquarters" of the SADF. It has a pentagonal shape and is constructed of "local materials" as well as "European imports". Guided visits are available and the author suggests to ask about the "many ghosts" who are suppose to "wander the ramparts".
