The Tudor Hotel is conveniently located on Greenmarket Square, adjacent to the Park Inn, which happens to have an intimate and cosy bar. It is the oldest hotel in Cape Town and therefore has such oddities as a minute, cranky elevator and somewhat small rooms. The bathroom was small and somewhat claustrophobic, consisting only of a toilet, shower and art deco basin. There is no restaurant or bar on the premises, but plenty of those are in the direct vicinity so it didn't pose a problem. The Tudor does, however, have a full breakfast buffet. This was ample but tended to be a bit monotonous after the second morning and some of the cheeses and cold meats were looking rather tired after having been presented more than once. All was forgiven in view of the friendly staff and the absolutely perfect location of the hotel within walking distance to most of the attractions. Taxis are also available directly outside the door. The downside, considering the smallness of the room and the noisiness of the market early in the morning, was the price... there are many cheaper and more comfortable lodgings to be found in Cape Town.

The room was extremely small, offering a double bed, clothing rack and dresser with hardly any space between them. Assumably it was one of the smallest rooms as I had booked a single only. Windows can be opened but the view is very uninspiring, being a glimpse of Greenmarket Square and the side of the adjacent Park Inn hotel.

The building is quaint and generally well-maintained. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful but as it is such a small hotel they are few and it took forever for someone to replace the dysfunctional television in my room.

The breakfast room is spacious and has a relaxed ambiance - the type of place where one enjoys lingering over a second cup of coffee. Buffet selections were ample and nicely varied, but the second morning there were some clearly droopy, resuscitated cold meats and cheeses from the previous day.

The Tudor is extremely conveniently located for anybody who wishes to explore Cape Town on foot. Directly on Greenmarket Square and within very easy strolling distance of St George's Cathedral, the Gardens, Long Street and the CBD, this is the ideal venue for exploring the City both by day and night. Due to the early morning bustle of the market it is, however, not a quiet location.
