Located at the corner of Wale Street and Adderley Street, the main road of Cape Town, the St George's Cathedral has also been known as the "The People's Cathedral" for the role it played during the apartheid era. Archbishop Desmond Tutu presided at the Cathedral, which features many stained glass windows and a labyrinth. Eight of the ten bells in the Bell Tower date from 1834. Visitors may tour the building and regular services are still maintained. The premises also include a grammar school and souvenir shop. |
