We have lift off

When the subject of visiting the Kennedy Space Centre was broached I was a bit dubious but as the men in the family were all keen I went along for the ride.
You enter the complex through Spaceport Central where you can pick up information, wheelchairs, buggies and can buy tickets. Kennedy itself is free but to enjoy it to the full a bus tour to the NASA Space Shuttle facility and a tour to the launch pad and the Apollo/Saturn V centre are well worth it. It only costs $8 for adults and $5 for children up to 11 under 3s are free, a Mission Pass costing $19 for adults $12 for kids includes the bus tour and a visit to the wonderful IMAX theatre where 3 films are shown each one runs for approx 30 mins and are well worth it. We visited in July when the temperature was extremely hot and the air conditioning of the IMAX was very welcome. As we strolled through the rocket garden an assortment of space crafts and memorabilia were on display and I have to say at this point a camera is essential to
capture this unique location. The Shuttle Plaza has a full scale Space Shuttle that you can actually walk through and it seemed to bring alive all the pictures from our television screens. Close to this was
the Space Mirror Monument to the astronauts lost in the name of space exploration a poignant reminder the danger involved.

Time for a little refreshment and a cool down even the food outlets have space names like the Lunch Pad and Orbit restaurants and the Snackport burger bar wish I could say the food was out of this world too but in reality it was very ordinary.
Onward and upward as they say next stop the Mission to Mars building which houses exhibits and films about the ongoing robotic missions to Mars it was a fascinating insight into the Red Planet. From there it was just a short trip to the shop to buy these all important souvenirs of a great day out.

In conclusion Kennedy Space Centre is a super day out for all the family it is well laid out suitable for prams and wheelchairs and a tour well worth including on a trip to Florida.
