Having previously stayed in more expensive hotels actually in Canterbury (one of which was the worst we've ever stayed in, and we have styed in some terrible places over the years!) we decided to go for a B&B a couple of miles outside the city this time and we are so glad we did.
The owner was really friendly and welcoming and the public areas, the lounge and dining room, were lovely. There was even a small bar with a truly impressive proper coffee machine, unusal for a B&B. They used a local coffee blend which was very tasty.
The room was a good size, even though we understand it was the smallest, and had a really spacious en-suite bathroom with a bath in and a decent shower over. The room itself was very comfortable with high quality fittings and tea, coffee and hot chocolate making facilites as well as biscuits. The only downside was that we got some noise from the en-suite bathroom next to us, mainly the sound of the bin being used, but this was a minor point.
They can supply evening meals from 6.30 - 7.30 (I think) which we opted for and were glad we had. There were several choices and it was all home-made - in a good way! It was delicious, the portions more than generous and one of us chose steak which was cooked exactly as requested.
Food is clearly important as the breakfast offered the sort of choice you would expect in a 4 hotel, including smoked haddock, kippers and smoked salmon in addition to the full english. There was also a wide range of fruit, yoghurt and cereals as well as toast - all included in the price.
We would throughly recommend this B&B to anyone and will return ourselves.
