Although less appealing than the Carlton, the Martinez is a "popular convention hotel". When this "art deco" hotel was built in the '30's, size wise, it could "rival with any other" hotel along the coast. In 1982 it was entirely restored, and its restaurant has become one of the finest in Cannes, having even been awarded a Palme d'Or. There are in fact three summer restaurants, and two winter restaurants. The Martinez has its own private beach and water skiing school. The "penthouse floor", described as being "a hotel within the hotel", is today "the chicest " place to go down, in the resort. [more]

We are told that the Martinez "was built in 1929" and that it is a "grand Art Deco palace". It has recently been refurbished, which has been carried out in a "sensitive" manner and done "without losing the original style". The rooms are "on seven floors" and those that face towards the sea "enjoy breathtaking views of the Cannes coastline". The majority of these rooms have "parquet floors" and "honey- or slate-coloured suede armchairs" that are on a "thick creamy wool rug".
