This reviewer was very disappointed with his stay at the Ardshiel, starting with the state of his room which was "an attic room" and badly in need of "redecoration". Another disappointment was the hotel bar which had been marketed has having "over 200 different malt whiskies" but the "anti social" owner, when he was around as he seemed to be "invisible" a lot of the time, would only "recommend one or two". In his absence, the bar was staffed by a "Parisian teenager" with poor English and no knowledge of malt whiskies. All in all, this reviewer didn't think this was a "comfortable" hotel, nor a "friendly" one.
