At 352 metres, Beinn Ghuilean dominates the little town of Campbeltown. That may not sound very high, but it is certainly high enough to offer commanding views of the Kintyre peninsula. It is also high enough to offer a relatively challenging walk, with a series of fairly steep climbs.
Although the path is fully managed, you need decent footwear for this walk, as parts of it can be a little muddy and the start of the walk is accessed through fields. Once you get to the start, follow the signposts and there is no way of getting lost really. You will need to look out for cyclists though, as part of the path is also a mountain bike trail.
If you find the walk hard work, and the midges are proving troublesome, dont give up, as the view you will be rewarded with is well worth it. You can see the whole of Campbeltown from up there, the Loch and Davaar Island. You can also see the other side of the peninsula. The view is made all the more spectacular by the fact that most of the walk is through forest, and it is not until you get near the end of the path that you come out into the open. Remember to walk quietly if you want to see wildlife.
