Some time ago I won a free travelers check for up to 14 nights in a hotel by my choice as I was able to choose between more than 20 destinations in Europe. My choice was Mallorca, Spain. It sounded like the perfect place.
After arriving in Palma I had to take a taxi to Cala Ratjada. Thank God the taxi driver knew some English, so on the way he was also something like a tour guide, telling us a bit of historical and cultural facts about the places we passed by. When we arrived in Cala Ratjada we had a problem finding the hotel, I guess it wasnt one of the most popular ones in town. The driver was nice enough not to charge us for the time it took him to find the hotel.
We arrived in the late afternoon. The receptionist was a nice young man who showed us to the room and escorted us to the bar where we had complimentary dinner, although it wasnt included in the price.
We were on half board so our program included breakfast buffet in the morning, around town during the day and back in the hotel to try the dinner buffet. The food was diverse and delicious, suiting all tastes! I must admit I did put some weight during that holiday, although I walked a lot during the day, swam too.
The location of the hotel is also perfect. It is around 200 meters from the pier along which a lot of shops and restaurants are situated and about 30 minutes walk, maybe less, from Cala Agulla beach. There was another smaller beach, which was much closer, hidden between the high rocks of the pier, Cala Gat, but we preferred the bigger and unquestionably marvelous beach Cala Agulla. It was then I realized I can actually swim. It was fun.
When we came back in the evening the rooms were cleaned and put in order. In our double room with two single beds we didnt have a TV, not even a fridge. It definitely wasnt a luxury room, but we didnt have a choice.
Despite this my overall impression was and still is positive. The staff was nice and polite, the food was great and the location of the hotel was perfect. Im definitely going back one day, only in a better room.
