The Kuranda trains leave Cairns main train station at 8.30 and 9.30 every day. They also pick up passengers at Freshwater Station 20 minutes later. The trip takes approximately two hours and takes the passenger through the tropical rainforest, with a stop at Barron Falls for forest walks and sightseeing.
A one way ticket (2010 prices) costs 45 AUD for an adult 23 AUD for a child (aged 4 to 14) and 113 for a family. Return tickets are respectively 68 AUD, 34 AUD and 170 AUD.
The trip on the Kuranda Scenic Railway can be combined with other local attractions to include Skyrail (a gondola over the forest canopy), Rainforestation tour, Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park and more.
