As a member of a middle-aged men's walking group, this hotel is just perfection for us. So much so that we have just returned from our seventh visit and intend booking again next year.
We found the hotel by accident back in 2003 by searching on the web. It looked just the job - friendly owners (Jim & Pilar) with a sense of humour, perfect location, basic but clean rooms and excellent home-cooked regional food. We've not been disappointed.
Jim and/or Pilar can either arrange organised activities for you, or if you are independant, can advise some excellent walking/mountaineering in spectacular surroundings according to your ability.
When you return you can enjoy a pint or two in the lovely terrace garden (try the pints of gin and tonic!) whilst doing a bit of bird watching. You do not need to even leave the hotel to see such birds as red-backed shrikes, Egyptian vultures etc
After a quick shower it's into the restaurant for a very tasty, good value, three course set menu of local dishes. The Asturian bean soup is a must!
Then into the bar for a very competetively priced night-cap :)
Next day, up for a buffet style breakfast, which is far better than other very basic pre-wrapped Spanish desayuno found elsewhere in 1 or 2 star hotels. Then check with Jim or Pilar the plan for the day and start enjoying yourself all over again.

The hotel has 19 rooms so is big enough to have atmosphere but not too big to lose indviduality. It is very clean but some of the rooms/furnishing are a little dated. However, in such a beautiful setting you will not be spending much time in your room.

Some items are a little worn - but this is a 1Star hotel. It does not pretend to be a 5 Star luxury hotel.
Most of the staff speak English (owner Jim is English) but some do not. Some Spanish language may be an asset - but if you do not speak it (like me) - that is half the fun. Try explaining you would like a poached egg (rather than scrambled or fried) for breakfast :)

Home cooked (some home grown) regional food. Very, very good and decent portions too. Just what you need after a hard days activity.

We always hire a car but the hotel can arrange transport/transfers.
Our days of night clubs are well past so we enjoy ourselves in the hotel bar.
Excellent centre for all outdoor sporting activities.
