After spending Thanksgiving Week in Gulf Shores, Alabama for vacation and the wedding of our youngest daughter, we drove peacefully homeward arriving at 9:17 pm. Upon opening the door to our beloved house, in one step told us something was dreadfully wrong. Nothing had been disturbed at first glance, but the second step was squishy, the third was splash.
We had 4 inches of water on our floors. Frantically we shut 3 water valves off from the back of the house to the front. The back was about 2 inches on carpet in the bedrooms closest to the bathroom. We moved splashing all the while to the front again getting deeper and deeper closer to the kitchen. With that valve under the sink open, we looked no water leaking through the pipes. Tracing the tubing to the refrigerator for the ice and water dispenser, we find a break in the tubing.
Found the problem about 9:30pm. We immediately got the wet/dry vacuum to start the process as we could not afford a restoration company to come out on an emergency at that time of night. We realized that we were not going to get ahead of it at 1:30 am. Luckily we had not unloaded any of the luggages from the car. With no water for bathing, drinking or laundry, we headed for one of 3 hotels in our town.
The brand spanking new one had no room in the inn. The other was amongst busy traffic meaning noise and at 1:30a with 4 inches of water in one’s house you want sleep. We then decided to go the Super 8. Checking in the clerk noticed the address asking is there a problem at your house? Together we said 4 inches of water in the house as we had been out of town for a week. We already had Triple A and AARP rate and because husband is on City Council a government rate was even better but she even discounted that rate again. Nice! How about a wake up call, she said, 5:30am we say and she said excuse me but breakfast bar doesn’t open until 6:30. We explained in fewer words that we had 4 inches of water in our house and needed to get home sooner rather than later. No problem, she said.
It was the oldest of the 3 but to our surprise when we opened the door, we find new carpet, new paint, new bathroom fixtures and a nice big flat screen television. At that time of night and after some water removal a flat screen television was not on our list of creature comforts. Husband won the toss of first shower. He gave no indication of how good it really was. I followed and the hot water felt wonderful after a ten hour drive and water evacuation. Shower was great, tub big enough to turn around without banging elbows on wall, not that that mattered too much to me being only 5 foot tall. Husband had my side turned down and was already asleep before I got out even with the sink counter lights glowing and water shower on hard massage. I was almost asleep as I turned the last light out. Then all of a sudden seemingly the wake up call came in the middle of the night as it were. We jumped out of bed because 4 inches of water was calling to us. Then a knock on our door came. I answered and the clerk was there with a HOT fresh McDonald’s breakfast since breakfast bar there would not be open. WOW! And again I say WOW!

The room was of a very nice size although for our purposes that night it would not have mattered. Plenty of room.
Very clean and smelled very fresh.
Recliner, 2 arm chairs, table, and a desk chair. Flat screen television was icing on the cake for a very small hotel.
The room was great as it had just been completely gutted and re done.

The condition of the property was/is very nice. All new inside. Outside is all brick. The brick layers were very good in putting a specific design several times on the outside. The grounds were/are very nice.
The front desk is very small leaving room for other things, breakfast bar and lounge area.

This hotel is right off 1/4 mile off a major freeway connecting Little Rock and north on to St Louis. Easy on and off.
The night life is next to nothing unless there are school activities or summer activities for children and teenagers as this small city is a bedroom community to the capitol city of the State of Arkansas
Considering it proximity to the freeway and main street, it is very ultra quiet.
