While there are lots of more luxurious hotels in Bucharest these days, not one of them will give you the type of comfort for the low price you pay at the Monte-Nelly. This hotel, which was built to be a hotel, later tansformed into a bank and has been remade back into a hotel again is a touch of old world charm at a reasonable price. The rooms are extremely spacious and comfortable, the amenities almost five star quality and even the food is good.

One of the things that will impress you is the huge size of the rooms here. Each one of the regular rooms has a huge bathroom with beautiful tiles and an enormous bathtub/jacuzzi/shower and fully equipped with both toilet and bidet as well. The beds are huge king sized ones that hardly take up the sleeping area at all, so there's lots of room for the large desk where you can connect your computer to the internet. The walk-in closet is of the size that must have once held a Murphy Bed, and there's enough room to put months of clothes in. One step down from the sleeping area there's a nice sized couch facing a very large TV on an even larger dresser. Of course, theres coffee and tea making facilities and a mini-bar just like you'd expect. Unfortunately, lower floor rooms have no view at all, and even the upper ones have very little since most of the rooms face away from the city. Those facing the other way have obstructed views but hell, you're not going to stay in your room and look out the window all day. Everything was completely clean and bright and tastefully decorated.

Lobby Atmosphere

From the outside this isn't much to look at but since its just off the main road, this is no surprise. The lobby is functional and clean without being overly stark, and the circular staircase in the center is actually very nice looking. The staff here are their biggest asset and they work very hard to please. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot in the way of business facilities or spa facilities, but when this hotel was built, that wasn't the main concern. No pool, sauna, or gym that I found.

I only had breakfasts here but there was a very good spread with lots of interesting things to eat and all arranged very nicely. Not having been in any bar I can't really comment on the beverages there, but they did have four types of juice at breakfast which is more than most 3-4 star hotels will give you. Again, the staff make this great and the service is top notch!

Transportation Connection

While off the main drag, this hotel actually is close enough to everything to get anywhere you want to go - to the mall, to the center of town and even to the opera. And because it isn't on the main road, it is far quieter than most hotels stuck on the street.
