very good
Clean and Quiet.
City trip
Breakfast only
Short trip (2-3 days)
Spouse/Partner
Atlas hotel was reasonably priced, for two nights we stayed in a double room for £45 each. We booked it through the website octopustravel.com.
The hotel is a bit further out of town than I would have liked, but every cab driver knew where it was and it is walk able into the main part of town as long as you are wearing comfortable shoes! The area surrounding it is typical of the outskirts of a city, a supermarket, some old closed down buildings and a few off licence type places. It is also situated right next to a tattoo parlour! It was a quiet area too, and I heard no noise at night - probably as everything around us was shut.
The room was OK sized, but nothing special. There was a bed, table, cupboards and hallway and bedside cabinets, but not much room around those. There is also a cable TV, phone and a big heater.
Weirdly the bed had two single duvets rather than one double, but as I am apparently a duvet thief my partner was happy with this.
The bathroom had a shower only with no bath, but was a decent size with a sink and toilet as well as towel rail and mirror. Our friend looked into our room and said his was identical, right down to the same paintings!
There was a hotel bar, which was open 24 hours and had a very friendly barman and a nice selection of beer/wine/cocktails though I only had an orange juice!! I went with my partner and another male friend and they spent a bit more time at the bar than me, most other bars in Budapest close at mid night so they were very appreciative of the hotel bar. It is situated as soon as you walk in the main doors, and has quite a few couches around it, and is priced to the general standard of Budapest.
The hotel staff were also very lovely, and pointed us in the direction of a nice local Hungarian restaurant. They patiently waited for my friend to try and attempt his Hungarian (he had a language book) and ordered cabs for us as well.
The reception has a wide variety of local information pamphlets, though mostly about tours. We picked up a flier there that saved us 10% when visiting one of the local sites so keep an eye out for those. They also sell postcards.
The hotel is about 10 stories high, and from the outside not that attractive, even the lighted sign is broken and says something like ALS TL (rather than Atlas Hotel).
Our room fare also included breakfast, which was standard European breakfast of bread/cheese/ham, but also had cereal and yoghurt. The juice tasted like cordial and the coffee wasnt very nice but since you arent really paying for it its fine. Breakfast is held in a room just behind the bar on the ground floor.
The room, and hotel, were very clean and I often saw the maids around with their cleaning carts. No problems there at all.
The best part about the room was that above our bed was a skylight, which had a blind for when you wanted to sleep but was great for gazing at the stars in bed. Lovely.
