The author starts his review with the statement that "nothing stands between Bryher and America". He notes that this hotel is a "stylishly simple escape" for those who want to get away from everything for a while. The rooms in this "remote outpost" remind him of California beach-huts, "elegant" and with "nautical touches". The décor consists of "bleached wood, stripes, checks and paste shades" and the rooms offers "masses of space" so that you don't have to worry if you are traveling with children as there is room for "children's clutter". The hotel is only a "flipflop away" from the beach and "most" rooms offer sea views.
The lounge and bar of Hell Bay are described as "high-ceilinged " and "comfortable" and feature "vibrant" arts of work "from the Dorrien-Smiths' modern art collection". The ingredients used in the restaurant are all locally produced and market fresh and "beautifully prepared and presented".The writer notes that there is also a heated swimming pool and the spa and sauna offer further pampering and relaxation. Concluding he states that this hotel is "special indeed".
