The main problem with this hotel is it's location. It is situated in a very run-down area, with a lot of closed down shops and shabby little (men only) bars. We did not feel very safe on these streets in the evening, and I would not reccomend walking anywhere after 8.00 p.m. Very intimidating, especially for females. It was a 20 minute walk to the old city centre, mainly through dirty streets, with gangs of men and vagrants hanging around,so a taxi is advisable.
The hotel itself is in a quite run-down condition, the room we had was dark and gloomy, and the double-glazing does nothing to keep the street noise out. The bed and bedding were old and badly needed replacing, and on checking in, we were surprised to be asked if we wanted a smoking or non-smoking room. The TV had no remote control and had no English language channels. No facilities for making hot drinks in the room and we were not permitted to take tea or coffee from the bar up to our room. The bathroom needed updating, very old and worn out fittings with mould around the taps and shower fitting, it also smelled of cigarette smoke. The staff were OK fairly helpfull, but overall not a pleasant experience.
