The Drakes is a "seafront Georgian terrace" that is described as a "grown-up place in which to let one's hair down". Hotel du Vin architect Michael Phillips designed the hotel interior bringing a "contemporary twist" to the "the original central staircase" and adding "distinctive Deco-style ripples across the bedroom covings". The author praises the "locally sourced menu" consisting of "beech-smoked eel, South Downs lamb" and "fresh fish from local boats".
