[more]The Braintree Carnival is an annually held event that was founded in 1964 by Mr George Warne as a project to raise money for Third World countries. Originally planned as an one-off event, the carnival was so successful that it has been held each year ever since and the money raised during the event is still used to support charities, although they are for local causes now.
The carnival is always held in June (for exact dates please visit the website) and consists of a one day spectacle that includes a carnival procession and a fun fair with shows of the groups and clubs participating in the procession as well as the election of the best procession float.
The procession starts in Braintree's town centre and always follows the same route which is outlined on the website. The fun fair offers entertainment for visitors of all age groups with a variety of rides, stalls with games and food vendors who sell traditional fun fair treats ranging from hot dogs to Belgian Waffles, candy floss and freshly made doughnuts.
