The Church of St Christophorus is a modern Christian Church which is located at an autobahn exit, leading to it often being referred to as the Highway, Expressway or Autobahn Church. This Church was created to provide a place of worship for travellers and is unusual inasmuch as it does not serve a local community.
Designed by Emil Wachter, construction of this building began in December 1976 and it was completed in July 1978. Outside the building there are four sculptures, including towers and crosses. These are arranged in a precise geometrical pattern, being positioned on the four directional axes of the building and therefore forming a cross. The east-west axis of the structure is the main axis where visitors enter and this corresponds to the daily path of the sun.
Services are open to all and guided tours of the building are also available. The Church is open 8am until 8pm during the Summer and until 6pm during Winter.
