Description

[more]Bournemouth lies in a sheltered bay with seven miles of sand. The beach has the Blue Flag and Quality Coast accreditations and Coast magazine readers voted it Britain’s Best Beach. The sand is soft and golden and the beach is suitable for families. A range of amenities is provided including hire of beach huts, deck chairs, sunbeds and parasols, lifts up and down the cliffs, and land trains to transport visitors from one end of the seafront to the other. There are organised attractions and events in the summer season and beachfront restaurants and cafés. Two piers provide amusement arcades and entertainment, and boat rides are offered.
There are public toilets at various places along the promenade, and dogs are not allowed on certain sections of the beach during the summer.
For the more adventurous, an artificial surf reef has been constructed at the Boscombe section. Two hundred metres out to sea, sandbags laid on the sea bed generate wave profiles ideal for surfing.
Lifeguards are on duty in the summer season from May to September.
