[more]The Fisherman's Feast is a tradition brought to Boston by Italian immigrants. Originally the festival dates back to the 16th century and the town Sciaccia in Sicily but since 1911 it is also an annual celebration in Boston.
The festival is devoted to the Madonna del Soccorso (Our Lady of Help) and includes a procession of the Madonna. Another highlight of the festival is the Flight of the Angel, when a girl dressed up as an angel will "fly" through the air towards the statue of the madonna.
Further there will be live music, food, arts and crafts and more.
The oldest continuously running Italian festival in the US is always held in August and lasts for 4 days. For exact dates and event schedule please visit the website.
The Festival is located in the historic North End of Boston, just off the Freedom Trail, at North, Fleet and Lewis Streets.
