Haus Daufenbach is clearly a good place to pick because there are plenty of local businessmen eating here on a weekday lunchtime. Having said that this is not a place for power lunches; it is more of a traditional place which serves good value daily set meals as well as choices from the menu.
It's cosy and welcoming without being too crowded and while there are loads of tables there is still some privacy. There are old paintings and photographs of local buildings and places of interest. Everywhere you look there is something to catch your interest.
The owner runs around taking orders as quickly as possible and service is swift and good; our drinks arrived promptly and our meals were not far behind. Vegetable soup - homemade - to start and a duck salad for me and a herring and potato salad for my partner. The duck salad was immense and quite bizarre - it contained bananas and all manner of fruit but there was so much duck that I forgave the odd stuff. The herring salad was to die for - absolutely divine and so generous with the fish.
We tried a kolsch (a local lager type beer) and a glass of local white wine - both were excellent and good recommendations from the owner.
For around 16 Euros we had a filling and delicious lunch. I must admit I had not expected such good value in Bonn but was pleased to find it.
