Bonita Springs is a beach community that neighbors the bustle and hype of Naples Florida and Fort Myers Beach in southwest Florida. It is a great alternative to the more up-scale and hurried pace of the resort communities that surround it. Besides the Grayhound Dog Track, its singular attraction is its calm waters and shell filed white sand beaches. However, for nature lovers there is the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary owned and operated by the National Audubon Society and acclaimed as the crown jewel of the Audubon's sanctuaries.
The Barefoot Beach Preserve is a county park with good services and easy access to a fairly uncluttered part of this serene beach that harbours a reserve of sea turtles on Hickory Island. Barefoot Beach Preserve has 342 acres of natural land, one of the last undeveloped barrier islands on Florida's southwest coast.
Father along the Bonita Beach Road are huge three and even four story beach homes with narrow public access allys to the beach with free parking slots if you arrive early or late in the afternoon. Both of these areas are great for beach combing, shelling and checking out some impressive homes. The water seems safe and there are park rangers to orient one's stay. Sea turtle nesting during the summer months is a great attraction.
The beach area off of Bonita Beach Road that becomes Hickory Road has many small guest houses and rentals that appear popular with Europeans. The nearest hotel is a very well appointed and clean AmericaInn just south of Bonita Beach Rd off of the main north-south artery, US 41 or Tamiami Trail. From here it is a quick trip into Naples with all its shopping and eateries. The difference in price between lodging in Bonita Springs and Naples is considerable. In the off season, booking directly with the front desk produces deals that are unimaginable.
This is a great option for travelers that want a more economic and less harried approach to the Naples-Fort Myers area in southwest Florida.

Bonita Springs Beaches are easily reached off of I-75 highway. Bonita Beach Road turns north at the beach and continues right along the coast (with other names) until Fort Myers Beach. Along the way are many other state and county parks and even a Dog Beach! Accomodations are simplier than the Naples area and family friendly.
