This piece is partly a hotel review and partly an account of our personal experience of visiting the city at a very poignant moment in Spanish history. Why did I want to stay at the Carlton? My first visit to the Carlton was entirely accidental and resulted from a flight landing so late that the hotel Id booked with a colleague had given our rooms away.
