In 1835, a little girl spends her holidays with her mother, the Countess of Montijo, on the Basque Coast. Impish and independent, she enjoys playing on the beach with friends of her age, fishing prawns in the rocks or even swimming in the Port Vieux.
One day she even escaped from drowning there. Fortunately, two young swimmers saved her in extremis. She will always remember those holidays because she literally fell in love with this landscape.
This young girl was Eugenie, and she later became the local « idol » and will make the glorious days of Biarritz.
In 1852 Eugenie meets Napoleon III, who falls in love with her and marries her.
From then on, Eugenie will try to persuade her husband to come with her to her favourite holiday destination, charged with childhood memories.
In 1854, the couple and their court went to the Grammont Castle, in the district of Saint-Martin, Biarritz. During this stay, Napoleon is also seduced by the beauty of the area.
Reputably a decision-maker, Napoleon decides to start immediately the construction of a bigger Palace for the summer season that could accommodate his family and his imperial court. The building is realised within ten months, a record time! This will then become the “Villa Eugenie”.

The hotel includes 152 guest rooms, among which 33 are suites and they all have a view onto the gardens, the park, the main courtyard, the swimming pool or the ocean. They are all equipped with the most modern facilities in terms of technology and communication: interactive big screen televisions LCD, broadband Internet access and free Wi-Fi in the whole Hotel.
