Compiled for you: The facts!Details Beverley Minster
| Description: |
Beverley Minster is the Parish Church of St. John and St. Martin. It is located in the heart of the market town of Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Building work began on the present day Minster in 1220 and was completed in 1425. The Minster was built on the site of a former Monastery. Beverley Minster is a place of pilgrimage and has been since early times. The tomb of John, a former Bishop of York, who died in 721, was originally housed in a Chapel at the Monastery and this is now in the Minster. John was canonised in 1037 and it is John's presence here that attracts pilgrims from far and wide. |
